PXE > Eyes

Most patients develop cracks in the retina of the eye. These usually have no effect on vision, but some patients may see wavy lines on a check pattern. These cracks allow small bloods vessels to grow, which may hemorrhage, especially if this occurs in the macula, the area where central vision is located. In that case patients may lose some of their vision. PXE does not usually result in blindness, but it can lead to social blindness as a result of its far-reaching consequences for the patient’s social life.
